Reds win again

The Norwegians are fifteen games into their season already and it showed in the opening minutes of the match as they started at a higher tempo than the Reds, flying into tackles and breaking with pace.

However, once Liverpool got a foothold in the game after ten minutes or so it became almost all one way traffic. Fernando Torres had the first chance of the match shooting just wide of the post. Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard then saw shots from outside the box sail over the crossbar.

Some neat build up play outside the box from Torres, Yossi Benayoun and Dirk Kuyt then played in Robbie Keane and his clever back heel laid the ball off for Alonso who hammered in the opener.

Liverpool then suffered an injury blow when Gerrard was withdrawn with a thigh injury. Jay Spearing came on for the skipper and the Reds continued to dominate the half. Robbie Keane almost scored from the edge of the box before Valerenga defender Adrian Reid headed against his own post.

Pepe Reina came on for Diego Cavalieri at half time and his first touch was picking the ball out of the net as the Norwegians suprisingly equalised straight after the restart.

The scores were level for a mere 60 seconds. From the restart Alonso's long ball was headed down by Kuyt into the path of Torres who ghosted past a couple of defenders before slotting home his second goal of pre-season.

Robbie Keane almost opened his account seconds later but his low shot went just the wrong side of the post. Minutes later Benayoun made it 3-1 with a fine individual goal. He received the ball outside the area, went past three defenders and then lifted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net.

That goal was the signal for Rafael Benitez to make mass changes. For the last 20 minutes the team consisted of seven teenagers, 22 year old Nabil El Zhar, 23 year old Daniel Agger, Pepe Reina and Sami Hyypia.

New signing David Ngog made it 2 goals in his last 2 games when he wrapped up the scoring ten minutes from the end.
