Reds win again

Goals from Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt saw the Reds take all three points from their visit to the Reebok Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Liverpool started the game brightly and the first half was almost one way traffic towards the Bolton goal. Kuyt fashioned the first chance for himself when he brought the ball down on the edge of the 18 yard box before unleashing a poweful shot that beat the keeper only to cannon back off the crossbar.

The Dutchman was only setting his sights with his first chance. A second one arrived soon after when Albert Riera's cross was charged down and the ball ran to Fabio Aurelio who sent in an excellent cross to the far post. Kuyt's header was even better, beating Jaaskelianen all ends up.

Robbie Keane had a great chance to make it 2-0 a couple of minutes later but he couldn't get anything on Steven Gerrard's cross despite the ball going practically over the top of his foot.

Daniel Agger missed a good headed chance after a quality cross from Riera while both he and Xabi Alonso saw shots go narrowly wide.

With the Reds missing so many good chances you always feared something could happen on the counter attack and that appeared to be the case just before half time when Gary Cahill headed in from a corner. Luckily the referee had spotted a foul on Pepe Reina and the goal was disallowed.

Bolton improved after the break and had the first chance of the second half. Subsitute Ricardo Gardner went through one on one with Reina, rounded him and with the goal gaping put the ball over the bar.

The Reds went up the other end minutes later and subsitute Fernando Torres crossed for Gerrard only for the captain to slide in slightly late and deflect the cross wide.

The duo combined with better results after 73 minutes. Torres sent in another fantastic cross and this time Gerrard headed home.

With the game now won it seemed only a matter of how many Liverpool would get. However, once again the Reds stumbled in front of goal. Torres hit a post, allowed to keeper to steal the ball from him in a one on one and then Lucas Levia must have shut his eyes when a cross from Gerrard found him in space inside the six yard box as he smehow headed wide with the goal gaping.

It was still a comfortable win for the Reds but they could be ruing the chances to eat into Chelsea's goal difference later in the season.
