The Reds won 3-2 at the Racecourse in their first pre-season friendly of the new campaign on Saturday. Besian Idrizaj scored a hat-trick in the first half hour following three assists from man of the match Jermaine Pennant.

Pennant, Steve Finnan, Alvaro Arbeloa and Momo Sissoko were the only first team players in action as Liverpool sent out two inexperienced sides, one in each half. New signings Andras Simon and Krisztian Nemeth made their Reds debuts in the second half.

Wrexham pulled two goals back in the second half through Efion Williams but Idrizaj had already won the game for the Reds.
