Reds win mini-derby

Liverpool fielded an inexperienced side against Everton with only Daniel Agger and Antonio Barragan having any first team experience. Agger played the first half as planned but there was a bit of a worry as he limped off at half time.

Besian Idrizaj played as a lone striker but only lasted ten minutes before being forced off thanks to a foot injury. He was replaced by Wales under 21's striker Ramon Castille.

The first half was a tight affair with both defences holding firm but things got easier for the Reds in the second half when Everton were reduced to ten men. Everton captain James Harris was shown a straight red card after 68 minutes after a horror tackle on winger Adam Hammill.

Liverpool scored what would be the winner seven minutes later when Ramon Castille picked up a David Martin clearance to score past the Blues.
