Heskey's 36th minute goal, his ninth of the current campaign, set the Reds on their way to a crucial 2-0 victory over Fulham. Heskey knows that the strike was of the utmost importance to both him and the club.

Heskey said: "After last weekend's game at Man United I think everyone needed a lift and so this was a good win for us. It was pleasing to get back to winning ways again.

"All strikers want to be among the goals and it was a nice moment for me when the ball hit the back of the net. As I said, we all needed picking up again after the match at Man United and that goal helped settle us down.

"We created chances all the way through the game and then Michael's goal at the end finished the game off. It was a good victory for us and one which sets us up nicely for the derby next week.

"We still believe we can get into the top four. We're going to need some more wins yet before we get there but we're all confident.

"The derby is going to be a good match next weekend. They are always fast and furious and I'm sure this one will be no different. It's a big game for both teams and one we're looking forward to."
