Liverpool FC’s early emphatic form saw the club topping the table, followed by glory in the Worthington Cup when a great team performance defeated Manchester United 2-0 in Cardiff with goals from Owen and Gerrard.
In Europe, Michael Owen broke Ian Rush’s record for European goals, and along the way there were some impressive performances including the home and away defeats of Auxerre in the UEFA Cup.
