Reserves beaten

Two goals from Sam Williams and one from Christian Kabeya wrapped the game up for Villa after only 33 minutes. David Martin returned in goal for Liverpool after Jerzy Dudek had played against Blackburn but the former MK Dons goalie had an awful night and gifted Aston Villa their win.

Martin had kept eight clean sheets in his last eleven reserve team outings but last night was just one of those nights. After five minutes Martin was outjumped by Williams who was beat him to the ball and headed into the net for 1-0.

It was 2-0 eight minutes later when Martin dropped the ball at Williams' feet allowing the Villa striker to tap into an empty net. The third goal on 33 minutes was the result of a decent move by Villa and the finish gave Martin no chance.

Liverpool had to wait until they were 3-0 down before they managed their first shot on goal. Danny Guthrie beat a couple of players and got a shot in only to see his attempt palmed away. Ramon Castille got to the rebound but his shot was charged down by a Villa defender.

Liverpool tightened up in the second half and it was a closer contest after the interval but by then the damage had already been done.
