Reserves draw

A Manchester City side containing the likes of Nicky Weaver, Ben Thatcher, Trevor Sinclair, Bradley Wright-Phillips and former Liverpool favourite Robbie Fowler started the game brightly and took the lead after only six minutes.

Fowler almost made it 2-0 on the half hour but shot past Jerzy Dudek's post while Ramon Castille could have grabbed an equaliser just before the interval after being sent through by Florent Sinama-Pongolle but unfortunately the Welsh under 21's international shot wide.

Liverpool equalised a mere three minutes into the second half when Sinama-Pongolle slotted home Danny Guthrie's cross. The Reds then took a grip on the game and should really have won it.

Castille and Sinama-Pongolle both saw decent chances saved by Weaver before the Reds had a blatant penalty turned down. Sinama-Pongolle was clearly fouled in the area but the referee didn't see it and then sent the French striker off for pointing out his myopicness.
