Liverpool and Villa drew 1-1 at the Racecourse in a game that saw the Reds finish with ten men and their opponents with nine.

Liverpool were on top from the start. Robbie Foy had a good chance after only six minutes but shot over bar. Danny Guthrie and Lee Peltier also had chances for Liverpool and Antonio Barragan was a constant threat down the Reds' right side.

With all their domination it was a suprise that Liverpool had to wait until the 73rd minute to open their account. Robbie Foy beat the offside trap to run onto Guthrie's through ball and placed the ball beyond the Villa keeper for a deserved goal.

Unfortunately for the Reds Villa were able to equalise against the run of play with ten minutes left when Eric Lund calmly beat David Martin in the Liverpool goal.

The game ended with three red cards. Lee Peltier was hacked down by Isaiah Osbourne who was sent off for the challenge. Unfortunately Peltier reacted badly to the foul and was sent off himself for retaliation. Aston Villa also had Scott Bridges sent off during the same incident.
