Reserves draw

An Adam Hammill goal was enough to earn the Reds a share of the spoils in yesterday's friendly. Hammill gave Liverpool the lead after 25 minutes with a fine solo goal but Oldham levelled things up in the second half.

The draw was an encouraging result for reserve team coach Gary Ablett who fielded an inexperienced side against the Latics.

"It was a good run-out for the lads. We fielded quite a young team and the lads coped very well against an Oldham side that included about seven or eight players who have played in League One," Ablett told liverpoolfc.tv.

"The conditions were atrocious but in the first half we passed the ball about well, defended well and showed some good incisive movement.

"The goal was a very good. Adam cut in from the left, took on a couple of defenders, saw a gap and floated the ball into the far corner just when it looked as if the chance had gone.

"We made four changes at half-time and to be honest our performance suffered as a result. We gifted them the equaliser and spurned a great chance to equalise at the end when Danny Guthrie had a one-on-one with the keeper.

"Overall though I'm happy with how we performed. We're still lacking a bit in front of goal but hopefully we can go on from here and show further signs of improvement in our game against Marine next week."
