Reserves draw

A Jay Spearing goal earned Liverpool a point last night but they should have taken all three after easily controlling the game throughout. Jack Hobbs, Sebastian Leto and Lucas Levia all rejoined the squad for this game at the Victoria Stadium.

Leto had an impressive game and caused United all sorts of problems. First he fired a snap shot that the United keeper managed to save, then he went on a run that saw he clearly upended in the penalty area. Unfortunately for the Reds, the myopic referee not only failed to award a clear cut penalty, he also booked Leto for diving.

The Argentinian had the last laugh however, as minutes before the interval he sent a cross into the penalty area which Lucas dragged back for Spearing who sent a low shot into the bottom corner of the new for 1-0.

Spearing had another fine chance on the edge of half time but the keeper managed to send it over the bar for a corner.

It was more of the same in the second half with Liverpool continuing to carve out chances. Ray Putterill and Spearing both had decent shots saved while Jordy Brouwer missed a couple of half chances.

The Reds' final ball had let them down on the night and it was to prove costly as Man Utd equalised on the break ten minutes from time. The equaliser finally spurred United into life but even then it was Liverpool who created the best chances. Lucas thought he'd won the game with a header in the final minute but it came back off the post with the goalie beaten.
