The Reds were the better team throughout but found themselves 2-0 down at half-time when the Blues twice scored against the run of play. Liverpool had the chance to reduce the deficit before the interval but Michael Roberts saw his penalty saved.
Suso got the Reds back in the game on 58 minutes when he scored from 20 yards and seven minutes later Nikola Saric got the equaliser. Liverpool pushed for a winner but it wasn't to be as both teams went away with a point.
