Reserves hammered

Liverpool can claim to be unlucky, with Neil Mellor hitting the post three times on his own, Whitbread scoring a bizzare own goal and Villa being awarded two penalties. However, with this result following the 5-2 hiding handed out by Man Utd, the reserves are struggling to avoid relegation.

Considering last night's team contained the likes of Mellor, Whitbread and Potter who all impressed for the first team at Millwall, as well as the likes of Welsh and Partridge, they should have given Villa more of a game then they actually did.

Mark Smyth gave Liverpool the lead early on before Villa ran riot.
