Reserves hammered

Despite sending out a strong team with plenty of Premiership experience, the Reds were second best throughtout the night and found themselves on the end of a hammering.

Liverpool had a poor start when defender Lee Peltier was forced off through injury after only four minutes. Fellow defender Stephen Warnock succumbed to illness and had to be subsituted after 35 minutes and by then the Reds were already 2-0 down.

Robbie Fowler created a great chance for Danny Guthrie just before the break but the skipper on the night was unable to hit the target after being sent clear by Fowler's excellent through ball.

The Geordies made it 3-0 on 65 minutes when they scored from a free-kick. Robbie Fowler then scored Liverpool's consolation goal before Newcastle added a fourth just before the final whistle.
