Reserves held

Liverpool could only take a point from a Blackburn side that played for an hour with ten men last night. The Reds had plenty of possession, they just couldn't break the Rovers defence down and gave the ball away far too much in the final third.

Blackburn were reduced to ten men after half an hour when the Rovers number 7 was shown a straight red card for kicking Sebastian Leto in the chest. That incident was the only moment of interest in a dull as ditchwater first half.

Gary Ablett introduced Daniel Pacheco at half time and he improved the Reds' performance slightly but again Liverpool failed to test Peter Enkleman in the Blackburn goal with any sort of shot on target.

The only plus point of the night was the performances of defenders Jack Hobbs, Stephen Darby and Emiliano Insua who were consistent as ever at the back.
