Florent Sinama-Pongolle gave the Reds the lead in the first half after an assist from new boy Jack Hobbs who played in the centre of midfield. However, the Geordies pulled it back to 1-1 just before half time.

The Reds took the lead again through trialist Ramon Calliste who is a Welsh under 21's international. A through ball from man of the match Danny Guthrie gave Calliste a chance which he buried in the bottom corner of the net.

Unfortunately Newcastle made it 2-2 before the end but overall it was a good night for the new look reserves as they played some decent football. Djimi Traore also made his comeback from injury as he successfully came through the first 35 minutes.
