The win was nice but the real story of the night was the return of Steven Gerrard after injury. Such was the demand to see his return that kick off was delayed 15 minutes to allow all the visiting support into the stadium.
Gerrard looked sharp on his return and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself; only a fantastic save from Wolves goalie Matt Murray kept him at bay.
Antonio Nunez did not make the squad for last night's game.
