Reserves win

Liverpool overcame a pretty strong Wigan side 2-0 at the Racecourse last night with Robbie Fowler scoring one of the goals. Fowler is unable to play against Birmingham in the FA Cup tonight of course, so was given a 45 minute run out with the reserves instead.

Fowler looked sharp during his first half display and showed his goal paching skills on the stroke of half time when he reacted quickest after Wigan keeper Gary Walsh dropped a Jack Hobbs header to poke the ball home for the opening goal.

Ramon Castille replaced Fowler for the second half and came close to adding a second himself when he met an Antonio Barragan cross in the six yard box, only to see his shot deflected wide by the defender.

Liverpool added their second on 65 minutes when man of the match Robbie Foy put away a clever finish from the edge of the 18 yard box. Foy had chances to wrap the game up but was denied by some good goalkeeping. In the end though, 2-0 was enough.
