Reserves win

A Paul Anderson goal in the final minute earned the reserves a late victory at the Racecourse last night. The goal was no more than the Reds deserved after dominating the match from start to finish.

The match started slowly but Liverpool soon began to take control. Robbie Foy had the first decent chance of the game on 20 minutes but he hit his shot just wide. Ramon Castille was then denied by a good save from the goalkeeper moments later.

Paul Anderson had a couple of good chances on the half hour mark but shot wide both times. Anderson then picked up a David Martin clearance, skinned the full back and put in a good cross for Castille. Unfortunately the Wales under 21's international's shot was deflected wide.

It was more of the same in the second half. Danny Guthrie put in a decent cross for Castille in the 51st minute but it was deflected clear before Castille could finish it off. Anderson then saw his stinging shot just clear the bar.

Lee Peltier almost won it for the Reds in the 86th minute but he saw his goal bound shot just kept out by the Birmingham keeper. It looked like it was going to be one of those nights for Liverpool but then Anderson popped up in the final minute to bury the rebound after Adam Hammill's shot had come back off the post.
