The reserves moved joint top of the league with a 1-0 win over Burnley at Prenton Park last night. It was an important win but one that was left late, with the winner coming from a Daniel Pacheco free-kick in injury time.

Burnley manager Owen Coyle decided to play up front for his reserve side which might have given an idea to the watching Rafael Benitez.

Burnley didn't create much throughout the game with Reds keeper Martin Hansen a virtual spectator, especially in the first half, but they did defend well and made it hard for Liverpool to break them down.

Nathan Ecclestone, Pacheco, Jay Spearing and Vincent Weijl all had chances for Liverpool but it looked like the game was going to finish goaless until a Burnley defender handled Ecclestone's pass 20 yards out and Pacheco stepped up to bury the resulting free-kick.
