Riise desperate to lift cup

Riise was a spectator back in Norway the last time Liverpool won the FA Cup. Riise knew he was joining the Reds when he watched them beat Arsenal in 2001, but has had to wait five years to play in the FA Cup final himself.

"When I'm asked about the FA Cup I only think about the 2001 final when Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-1," he said.

"I watched that game on telly and knew about the interest from Liverpool at that time, so I watched it closely.

"To see how they won it was unbelievable and you could see on the faces of the players how much it meant to them.

"I liked the experience of watching them in the final and them winning it but I had to keep quiet because nobody knew they wanted to sign me.

"Me and my agent had spoken to Gerard Houllier, but we kept it quiet.

"There were rumours of me going to other clubs in England but for me there was only one club.

"You always get excited watching those type of games, but inside I was relieved and very happy for the players.

"Since I came this is probably the first year we have done very well in the FA Cup. It is a massive cup all over the world, especially in Norway where it is very famous, so to be part of that is massive and I'm looking forward to it.

"I've been here five years and know how much this cup means to the players and the fans.

"I scored last year against Chelsea in the League Cup final but we didn't win that game. It is always nice to score goals, especially in the big games, but I don't care who scores them if we win.

"I just want the team to do well and win the game. We have a big chance, we're in the final and anything can happen."
