Riise ready to back the boss

Houllier has faced fierce criticism from the Anfield faithful following a fourth home defeat of the Premiership season at the hands of Southampton, but Riise has made it clear that the Reds will unite behind the Frenchman as they bid to salvage a season looking increasingly likely to end in dismal failure.

Riise, speaking to the club's official website, said: "The manager is doing everything he can and everyone is right behind him. We are all in this together - the players, the coaches, the staff and the manager," says Riise.

"The last couple of games have been disappointing for us all but it's too easy to blame the manager. The players are the ones out there on the pitch and we haven't been playing our best football lately.

"We had a good result against Newcastle and we hoped that would be the start of a good run but we then slipped up against Bolton in the Cup and again against Southampton on Saturday.

"We've got a get a good run of results going and to do that we must work hard and stick together. That is the most important thing right now. We know we can turn things around.

"Obviously the fans are going to be frustrated. On Saturday we lost at home for the fourth time in the league this season and that is not good enough. We should be strong at home. The fans want to see us at the top and that is where we want to be but things haven't gone our way lately.
