Riise still aiming for top four finish

The 22-year-old knows how important finishing above Everton is to the Anfield faithful, but he admits that winning a place in next season'e Champions League is the sole focus of the Liverpool side.

Riise said: "We want to finish as high as possible in the table and I'm sure our fans want us to finish ahead of Everton. That's important for them. But it's more important that we concentrate on qualifying for the Champions League. That's our main aim and that's what we're striving for over the last five games of the season. If we get into the top four then we will be happy with what we have done this season.

"We have to be confident that we can go there and win. We have been better away from home than at Anfield this season so there's no reason why we can't get the three points at Everton.

"Of course if we do win it will give us a big boost for the last four games. We're certainly going there in good heart anyway. Ever since the win in the Worthington Cup final our confidence has been growing and hopefully we can continue in good form until the end of the season and get ourselves into that top four."

To keep in touch with fourth placed Chelsea the Reds simply must claim all three points at Goodison Park. Riise knows that he and his fellow defenders must stop Everton's wonderkid Wayne Rooney if this ambition is to be realised.

Riise added: "Wayne Rooney has impressed me a lot. When the England lads came back from the recent international games I was asking them what he was like in training. He is amazing. He has great skills, he is strong, he scores goals and he does things with the ball that you wouldn't expect a normal 17 year old to do. He can go on to be a very, very good player.

"It's a pity we'll be without our first choice centre backs but football is about a squad and we have 25 or 26 players here who can all do a job in the first team. Whoever plays in this game will be good enough to help get us the right result."
