Riise will fight for his place

Riise played more games than anyone for Liverpool last season but this year his place on the left-hand side is under threat from new signing Bolo Zenden in midfield and the continually improving form of Stephen Warnock in defence.

However, Riise is confident he can remain in Rafael Benitez' first team plans and hopes his goal-scoring endevours will swing things in his favour.

"I'm going to try and get as many shots on goal as I can this season. It's an area of my game where I know I can do well," said Riise.

"I know it's going to be harder this season for me because the squad is bigger. There are some of us who know we'll be on the bench for certain games. But that's not something which worries me.

"I'm very happy here and this is all part of being at a club like Liverpool. When you play 60 games a season, no-one can expect to be in the side every week.

"I've had a good few seasons where I've played a lot of games, so maybe this will be a bit different, but as long as I keep working hard, showing what I can do in training and taking my chances when they come along, I'm confident I can have a good year."
