Robinson is now a tv pundit in Spain where he regularly saw the football played by Benitez' Valencia and he believes Liverpool can play the same style of attacking football, with or without Michael Owen.
Said Robinson: "I think Rafa Benitez's challenge is to make Liverpool competitive, which they haven't been.
"Benitez needs to change the style of play. Liverpool's style of defending and counter attack under Houllier is not a style that has ever been associated with Liverpool Football Club.
"As a Liverpool fan I don't think it will be a disaster for Michael to go as long as it gives Benitez the funds to bring someone else in."
