West Ham boss Glenn Roeder has been explaining the reasoning behind his decision to sell former Red Rigobert Song.

The Cameroon skipper has agreed a 4-year deal with Lens and he has admitted that he's sad to be leaving England.

Talking about the transfer, Glenn Roeder said: "It is an undisclosed fee, but we have secured a small amount of money for him.

"With the way the transfer market is at the moment, we have had to take a hit on what we paid Liverpool for him. But it is the right move for the player and the club. He was not getting regular football here because, after we signed Tomas Repka, it came down to him or Christian Dailly to play alongside him.

"But I hope Rigobert does well at Lens, where he will be involved in the Champions League. He is captain of his country Cameroon, where he is a superstar, and could not expect to be sitting on the bench every week - he needs to be playing regularly."
