Roeder hoping to keep Kanoute

The West Ham manager is fully aware of the esteem in which Gerard Houllier holds Kanoute. Roeder expects that the French player, who is now fit after five months on the sidelines, will be ready to show his worth to the Reds boss.

Roeder said:"We keep hearing Liverpool and Gerard Houllier like Freddie very much. I can understand that because, when he's on top of his game, he's a fantastic striker.

"But no manager would want to lose him, so I'll do my best to put any club off him. There's no reason why we can't keep him here as Freddie feels a great deal for the club and enjoys his time here.

"But you cannot hide good players and they are there for everyone to see. And I'm sure he's one player who is particularly looking forward to the game tomorrow."
