Rovers want to keep Neill

Neill almost signed for Liverpool on transfer deadline day but Blackburn refused to sell the Australian defender. Neill's contract is up at the end of the season however, and he can sign a pre-contract in January.

Neill has admitted he hopes Liverpool come back in for him and he would like to join the Reds but Blackburn still haven't given up hopes of persuading the Aussie to sign a new contract with them.

"Sometimes you have to take comments that filter through from great distances with a pinch of salt. I'd rather speak to Lucas about them face-to-face because you have to be careful that certain things have been embellished," said Blackburn manager Mark Hughes.

"But as far as I'm concerned the situation hasn't changed. Lucas is well within his rights to keep his options open, and that's something all parties are comfortable with.

"Clearly we want him to stay, and we've offered him an improved contract this week, which he's not had a chance to look at, so there's still work to be done."
