Rush: Carragher can be central to Reds plans

The 25-year-old former England skipper has played the role to great effect on many occasions - most notably in last season's Goodison derby - and Rush feels that such versality will be greatly useful now that Steve Finnan has claimed Carragher's right-back spot.

Rush said: "People will wonder what his (Finnan) arrival means for Jamie Carragher. For me, Jamie has been one of Liverpool's most consistent players for the last couple of seasons. It should not be forgotten, however, that he can also play very well at centre-back and will give Gerard Houllier another option there."
