Rush said: "Salif Diao has not had many opportunities to play regularly since he joined Liverpool. The injury to Steve Finnan looks as though it will open the way for Salif to get a run at right-back.
"He has done well there in the past. He had a very good game in the derby last season, you will remember. With so many vital games on the horizon, it is essential he shows everyone what he can do.
"Finnan could be a big loss, especially since Jamie Carragher is still injured."
