Rush: Heskey must prove himself

The Welshman insists that the 25-year-old former Leicester man has the ability to regain the form that made him such a hit at Anfield during the treble season, but he concedes that it is Heskey who must prove him right on the pitch.

"The next campaign will be a big one for Emile Heskey after his England place has come under pressure from Wayne Rooney and even Darius Vassell," admitted Rush.

"I'm sure Heskey will prove himself next season. He is capable of doing it and Michael Owen likes playing alongside him.

"In fact it is a big season for Liverpool in general. They can be very successful, but everyone must perform. The players know what is expected of them."
