Owen left for Real Madrid in an £8m deal last August but has failed to earn a regular place in the starting line-up despite being the club's top scorer. Recently Owen expressed his frustration at his situation causing speculation he may be considering a return to the Premiership.

Liverpool have first option on Michael Owen, so if the England striker is considering a return Ian Rush believes the Reds should exercise that option and bring Owen back to Anfield.

"If Michael Owen considers returning to England at the end of the season, I'd be amazed if Liverpool didn't do all they could to bring him back." said Rush, who returned to Anfield after a year with Juventus.

"Regardless of the fact that he's a former player, whenever a striker of his quality becomes available, you want Liverpool to be competing for his signature."
