Rush keen on Kewell

The Welshman, who played alongside the mercurial Australian international for a short spell at Leeds United, also confirmed that the 24-year-old was a Liverpool fan as a child. This fact, of course, could prove crucial as the Reds face competition from Champions League-bound Arsenal and Manchester United for Kewell's prized signature.

Rush said: "He has unbelievable skill. He is as good as I have seen in that respect and his ability to play out wide or as a centre forward reminds me of Ray Kennedy.

"I can remember him asking for a shirt when I was at Leeds. That could be significant if Gerard Houllier decides to make a move for Kewell when he returns to Melwood from his summer break.

"I would certainly be happy to see a player of that cailbre in a Red shirt."
