The Welshman believes that no amount of star names will be enough for Madrid to match the overwhelming support the Reds will be greeted by when they travel to the Far East next month.

"No matter how much money they splash out and how many world-class players they sign, Madrid will never be able to compete with Liverpool when it comes to global support," explained Rush in the Liverpool Echo.

"Buying David Beckham was a bid to tap into that fanbase. But while Beckham is a huge hero in the Far East where Madrid are keen to boost their profile, Liverpool are far bigger."
