"I think there were some outstanding candidates this season," said the former Liverpool man. "Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard would have been worthy winners.
"But you can understand why the PFA decided on Henry. He's more responsible than anyone for Arsenal winning their title.
"Without him, I don't think Arsene Wenger's side would have hit the heights they have this season.
"Henry and Arsenal have set the standards this season. The rest of us will be aspiring to match them next season."
