Sander just won't let go

As Jerzy Dudek tries to rebuild his confidence following a series of blunders, Westerveld is angry that he was not given the same support from the Liverpool boss.

"Every time I see Liverpool, it still hurts," said the Dutchman. "I made a mistake in the last minute against Bolton and we lost 2-1. That was my last game.

"After that I went to the national team and Liverpool bought two keepers. That was the biggest shock I've had.

"I started thinking if I was the No.2, maybe it could be my time to get back.

"But I never had the chance to get my place back or fight for my place."

What Westerveld forgets is that for a full season he received the backing of the manager. The outspoken comments on his personal website were forgiven and he was allowed to play through inconsistent spells throughout the season.

Only when Houllier had the opportunity to purchase two better keepers was it decided that Westerveld was no longer needed.

Comparisons cannot be made with Dudek as we all know how much better the Pole is than his predecessor.
