The Frenchman believes that the future of English football will be on show as Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney prepare to do battle at Anfield.

"I would say half the England squad of the future will be playing on Sunday at Anfield," said Houllier.

"This is not only good for English football but it is good for the city."

"If you were the England coach today you might be better living nearer to Liverpool than London.

"All the top English talent is in the North West and Merseyside can be proud that half is at Liverpool and half at Everton."
