Semmy to stay

Semmy impressed Crewe boss Dario Gradi during his three month loan spell there and Gradi was hoping to sign the full-back on a permanent deal.

"Jon has decided to return to Liverpool once his loan spell ends and he wants to look for a new club from there," said Gradi. "That's his decision and we just have to get on with it now.

"I'm disappointed because I've enjoyed working with him and was looking forward to working with him further in the future. I think he is a player of great potential and he has done very well for us.

"I won't try and persuade him (to sign) because I only worry about players who want to play for us. He's had ample time to make his mind up and there is nothing more I can say to Jon. He's been here for three months and I think he's enjoyed it."
