Semmy made his Premier League debut under Gerard Houllier last season at right-back but was dropped when he dared to cross the half-way line. He was then sent on loan to Bolton but failed to break into the first team.

This season Semmy went to Crewe on loan and impressed Dario Grady who was hoping to sign the young defender on a permanent deal. However, Ostemobor decided to return to Anfield for one last chance of proving himself.

Semmy was converted to a right-sided midfielder on his return and has impressed in reserve games but seems unlikely to make the breakthrough and went up to Hearts at the weekend for a week's trial.

Hearts manager John Robertson said: "Jon was recommended to us and he is here for a few days so we can have a look at him. We also have a trialist keeper here this week and a couple of others over a few age groups."
