Senderos spurns Anfield advances

The highly rated defender has been the subject of much discussion in recent months as a host of Europe's top clubs sought his signature.

Senderos has explained why Highbury will be his destination next July. He said:

"The English develop a fighting spirit and that is why I want to play at Arsenal,' said Senderos, a rugged centre-half whose footballing hero is Real Madrid's defensive rock Fernando Hierro. 'In England, football is like a religion. I like the English game and I think playing in the Premiership will allow me to develop better as a player."
