Liverpool have been linked with Morientes for a while and Owen believes the Spanish international would do well with the Mighty Reds.
"I'm sure Liverpool will go into the transfer market at Christmas," said Owen. "There's Neil Mellor in the reserves, he's useful. The manager at Liverpool seems to use Luis Garcia up front sometimes and there's Harry Kewell as well, but I think they will want to get an out and out striker.
"I know from playing alongside Morientes how good he is and I'm sure he'd do well in English football."
