According to a Spanish newspaper, Barca's Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain has been given the task of recruiting a ball winning midfielder, with Sissoko matching the bill. And Barca will be hoping that with Sissoko's previous success at Valencia, he will be keen to return to Spain.
However with the player enjoying considerable success at Anfield, it seems unlikely the Malian international will be tempted away from Rafa Benitez's team.
Begiristain meanwhile would not be drawn on any comments regarding the players he will be targetting.
