The Football League has agreed a £95m deal with satellite broadcaster Sky to show matches over the next four years.

The agreement, initially to screen live league football, Worthington Cup and LDV Trophy games, will bring in £20m in the first season.

A total of 60 games a season will be shown and the League could also agree a deal for a highlights package.

Sky intends to broadcast live matches on Saturday evenings along with some games on Friday evening and Sunday afternoons.

The deal brings new hope to a number of financially-crippled clubs who were left facing a bleak future after the collapse of the ITV Digital television deal.
