Baros is currently Liverpool's top scorer with 12 goals, equalling his best ever total for the Reds, despite missing a month of the season through injury.

With the signing of Fernando Morientes to play alongside him, Smicer believes his compatriot will really hit top form during the rest of the season and will be a more than adequate replacement for Michael Owen.

Smicer said: "I think it was bad news for us when Michael left but that was probably good news for Milan because he knew he would have some more chances. I think he has taken it really well.

"He showed in Euro 2004 that he is a good striker who can score goals and he has shown that this season at Liverpool. I think the fans like his pace and when he runs at defenders. I am happy for Milan, he is scoring goals and has been really effective for Liverpool.

"At the start of the season some people were asking whether Milan could play with Djibril Cisse because they are of the same style, but with Fernando I think that's maybe what people are looking for. You have Milan with pace, movement and dribbling ability and Fernando is very good technically and very good in the air.

"They can combine very good together and of course they will need to play a few games together. I think Fernando will score lots of goals because he has scored goals everywhere he has been."
