Smicer calls for unity

The 29-year-old Czech international, who has shown signs of his very best form this season despite the general malaise affecting his team-mates, believes that the Reds' disappointing results thus far do not reflect the ambition evident at Anfield.

Smicer said: "Results so far don't reflect our ambitions. We need to pull together. I talked to Patrik Berger after he scored against us on Saturday and we agreed Portsmouth deserved to win."
