Smicer is definitely out for the next months but the Czech has revealed that there is a chance he might never play again.
"It could not have been worse timing for me," he said. "A new manager and the last season of my contract and I get an injury that puts me out for six months. It could not have been worse.
"You do worry about it. You want to play and at this age you wonder if you will play again.
"The specialist said to me there's a 75 per cent chance of the operation being a success but that means there's a 25 per cent chance it might not work. That is a big worry.
"The operation did go well and that is a good thing. The specialist said it really couldn't have gone any better. But while there is that slight chance you will always have doubts.
"I am going to be on crutches for two months and they have given me a machine that I've to be on for eight hours a day. Hopefully it will all work for me."
