Smicer hoping to impress

Smicer says that the attacking style of football the Reds employ under Benitez suits his game and he hopes to impress the boss and win an extension to his contract which expires at the end of the season.

"I am at a good age and I have some experience and I know the Premiership and I just want to enjoy my football. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do that this season because of my injury," said Smicer.

"I had a good Euro 2004 tournament with the Czech national team and I was really looking forward to the season with the new manager and some new players. It has been very frustrating and I just hope I can be back now injury free and I just want to enjoy my football at Liverpool.

"I think the football Rafa Benitez has got the team playing suits my game more. I like it when I can get the ball as much as possible because then my confidence is high. If I only touch the ball once in five minutes then I don't feel like I'm in the game so hopefully with the passing and moving it will be better. First of all it is really good for the fans because if we play well passing and moving it is really good football."
