Smicer: It's our own fault

"We are making things much harder for ourselves than they should be," admitted Smicer.

"Our fate is no longer in our own hands now and we need to rely on other results going our way over the last few weeks.

"All we can do is try and put a run together and hope it is enough. I do not like to look further than the next game but it is true that we may need to win all five of our remaining matches.

"Can we do it? I do not know. We have to go to Manchester United and it is never easy to win there. We just have to do our best in every game."

Smicer added: "I do not know what went wrong against Charlton. We just did not seem to have the energy or the physical ability to go and win the game.

"It was not a good performance. We only had a couple of good chances. I had one towards the end with a close-range header and I still cannot believe the goalkeeper saved it.

"I felt certain it was going to be the equaliser.

"But we have to get over what happened and concentrate on beating Fulham at the weekend. We lost a big three points against Charlton and we cannot make the same mistake on Saturday."
