The former Leeds United marksman would rather see Alan Smith lead the attack with Michael Owen.
"Alan Smith is a good, honest lad and he’s a 100 per cent trier," he said. "He’s not a right-sided midfield player and he never will be, he is a goalscorer. But he is not a natural goalscorer.
"If he knocks in 20 or 21 goals playing up front, he’s a striker. If he does it for three or four years, he will have proved me wrong and I’ll say he’s a goalscorer.
"But I would have him in there for England ahead of Emile Heskey. With respect, I could score more goals than him at 56!"
