The Scottish player-manager moved from Rangers to his former club Liverpool but his three years in charge were some of the worst the club has suffered.

Many believe that his decision to scrap the Boot Room in favour of a more modern approach is the reason that Liverpool have failed to replicate the successes of the 70's and 80's.

"When I left Rangers, I had the feeling the grass was greener on the other side but now I realise I made a mistake," he said.

"You can't go back and it's hard to say I wish I had never left because I'm now married again and very happy in my personal life and have a new baby.

"If I had stayed at Rangers, none of that might have happened. In football terms, there are things I would like to change but I would like to think that I did my bit and the club has since moved forward in leaps and bounds."
